Obituary for David Leroy "Dave" Greenbank

David Leroy "Dave" Greenbank
Dave Greenbank was born in New Westminster, B.C. on December 12th 1941 and was the only child of Patricia Greenbank. He attended school in New Westminster, studied science at UBC, taught high school science for several years and then returned to UBC to study law. Dave was called to the bar on May 14th 1973 and practiced civil and criminal law for the remainder of his career. He was a prosecutor for the Federal Department of Justice for many years over which time he enjoyed the support of his partners and his devoted legal assistant. David enjoyed mentoring many students over the course of his career and was respected by fellow counsel and the courts.

When not at work, David most enjoyed travelling and boating with his loving wife Margaret, whom he affectionately called Maggie. They shared their love of the ocean by boating the local waters on their boat the ‘Straight Shooter’ and often enjoyed their time on the water with many friends and family. They spent many weekends laughing and socializing on different docks throughout many areas of the BC coast.
They also enjoyed cruising and travelling to locations further abroad with family and friends. Dave was delighted with spending time with his children, Shelley Livgard (Larry), Jeff Greenbank (Trish), and Sara Smyth along with his grandchildren Hunter, Trent, Justine and Joel. There were many highlights including taking the grandchildren to Disneyland, Florida, Hawaii, enjoying so many great times and so many laughs with his family.

Dave loved listening to music, often times the louder the better. He loved reading and was always in the middle of another ‘good book’. He maintained many close friendships throughout his life. He was known for his great sense of humour, loved telling jokes and always loved a good laugh. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially skiing and hiking in the Whistler area. He passed his love of the outdoors, especially skiing, hiking, and boating to his children and grandchildren.

Dave and Margaret’s love of the ocean and coastal areas lead them to build a beautiful home in Pender Harbour where they spent a number of enjoyable years together and enjoyed frequent visits from family and friends. Recently, Dave and Margaret moved to Sechelt where Dave spent his last few years enjoying time with his beloved wife, frequent visits with family and friends and his latest ‘good book’.

Dave will be missed by many.
