Obituary for Kalevi Antero Hautakangas

Kalevi Antero Hautakangas
Hautkangas, Kalevi (Kal) Antero.
February 5, 1932 – August 23, 2017
Surrounded by his loving wife and children, Kal passed away on August 23rd at Eagle Ridge Hospital. He will be missed tremendously by his wife of nearly 65 years, Saara; his children, Tuula, Kal, and Janet; his grandchildren, Shannon (Scott), Meagan (Kelly), Benjamin, and Gordon; and his great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jozef, Quinn & Taylor. In addition to his immediate family, Kal will be greatly missed by numerous relatives and friends both in Canada and Finland.
Kal was born and raised in Finland and always stayed true to his Finnish roots: he believed in weekly saunas, ice fishing, smoking salmon, and swimming in cold lakes. Despite his love for Finland, Kal immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1960 and quickly came to adore Canada for all of its opportunities and beauty. Kal loved living in British Columbia, spending his time outdoors being active, and working as an electrician at IWA sawmills, where he was a devoted and hardworking employee.
When Kal retired, he spent his time puttering in his garden and yard, working on projects around the house, going for long walks and swims with his beloved wife, and golfing, which he did well into his eighties. The entire family benefited from witnessing the strong marriage that Kalevi and Saara had, and being able to witness what it truly means to be married to one’s best friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to visit the condolences page for Kal and leave a message that will bring comfort to Saara and their children during this difficult time. Please visit http://www.burquitlamfuneralhome.ca/ to leave a message.
It is impossible to sum up such a wonderful man in a few short paragraphs, so the family is thankful for all of our wonderful memories that we have of him dancing in the kitchen, winning at Scrabble, and enjoying a good meal. Kal was a cherished husband, a beloved father, an admired grandfather, and a treasured great-grandfather and our entire family will miss him tremendously. We love you, Kal! Rakastamme sinua!
