Life Story for
Marian Tekla Clements (Delawsky)
We lost our beautiful Marian on November 25th, 2017.
A loving wife and enthusiastic swing and jive dance partner to Jim:
"My blue eyed, blonde haired loverly". Farewell my love. 'Til we meet again!
Eternally,
Jim"
A doting mother and confidante to Shelley (and Robert) and Susanne (and Bryan). An adoring and very adored grandmother to Rogan (Cassie), Erinn (Brad), Evan, and Colin. A favourite "Aunty" to many and sister to Joe. This loss is life changing for all of us. At some point Marian's memory will bring a smile to our lips rather than a tear to our eye, but that will be a long time coming.
A kind and gentle soul who looked forward to the next long chat with her daughters; hours of listening patiently followed by warm and insightful pearls of wisdom. Many crises were averted. Thanks, Mom!
A purveyor of large family dinners; we're sure going to miss her homemade pirogies and other delights. Always enough food (i.e. - love) to bolster an army. Who cares if the Brussels sprouts got forgotten in the warming drawer?!
A nature whisperer who communed with the hummingbirds that like to dip and dive outside the kitchen window; a nurturer of the flowers and plants and pets who had the good fortune to find her.
A compassionate woman with a glint of humor in her lovely sky blue eyes, Marian charmed all who met her. Her grace and poise and style will be remembered by her family and wide circle of friends. We will all deeply miss her.
As a youngster, Marian worked on the family farm in Coquitlam alongside her father John, her mother Annie, and her big brother Joe. She tended to the cows (Bossy and Elsie were favourites) and delivered fresh milk to their neighbours. Marian also looked after their extensive garden. In the spring and summer she'd keep busy harvesting big, juicy strawberries and selling them at the New Westminster farmer's market.
Starting in her teens Marian was highly interested in fashion. She joked that she got a job at Woolworth's just for the employee discount! She was very adept at turning her paycheques into beautiful outfits. She loved dressing up and attending local dances. It was at one of those dances where she met a certain tall, dark, and mysterious fellow who would become smitten for life. He was stymied at the start though; he couldn't offer her a ride home as she had driven herself and her friend to the dance in her father's '53 Oldsmobile.
How she loved the independence that car gave her! She and her friends used it "for special business purposes" which we know involved "holding court" with her circle of classmates.
We're sure it was a combination of charming confidence, intelligence, beauty, and fashion sense that inspired those classmates to select Marian as Homecoming Queen at Como Lake High School.
Marian relished her years in high school. The friends she made and experiences she had there were extremely precious to her, as evidenced by the many reunions she helped to organize.
And what great organizational skills she had! As Executive Assistant to the mayor of Coquitlam she was indispensable. When she left City Hall to become a stay-at-home mom there was nary a dry eye in the whole place.
Always humble, Marian preferred to shine the spotlight on others rather than on herself, so at her request there will be no service. There will be a gathering of family & friends in January. After the New Year, please check with Facebook, Burquitlam Funeral Home or the family for date and location
In lieu of flowers, donations to AutismBC or a children's charity of your choice will be gratefully appreciated.
See you later, Marian. Cherished wife. Glorious mother and grandmother. Treasured sister, Aunty, and friend. You will be in our hearts forever.
