Obituary for Grete Elisabeth Udsen (Sommer)

Grete Elisabeth Udsen (Sommer)
Grete Elizabeth Udsen, 93, passed away on February 22, 2018. Mom is lovingly remembered by her daughter Connie (Jeff) and her “grandson” Daniel (Leyli). She was predeceased by my father in 2001. Mom always told everyone that she knew that she had the “best” daughter, the “best” son-in-law and the “best” grandson in the world; but we all know she was the “Best” Mom.

Mom was a resident of Coquitlam for 61 years. Mom was always a hard worker, one of her first jobs in BC was assistant baker at Sapperton Bakery. In later years, a lot of residents of Coquitlam will remember her as the “School Patrol Lady” for Lord Baden-Powell School at the corner of Blue Mountain Street & Dansey Avenue.

Mom was a kind-hearted and giving soul and the most positive person I knew; she always had a huge sense of humor coupled with a quick wit. If she gave a “cheeky” retort, Mom would blush and giggle like a school girl, even in her later years. Anyone that entered her home knew her hospitality; there was always coffee and food put on the table and you were always told to “eat”, even if you were not hungry..you never said “No” to Mom.

I would gratefully like to thank the staff at Nicola Lodge for all their many kindnesses and their excellent care given to Mom, especially Maria, Zaidy, Jamie, Sela & Maida.

There will be no service and in lieu of flower, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
